PMJAY – Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme, Eligibility, Registration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched Ayushman Bharat, world’s largest government-funded healthcare scheme in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.
With the rollout of the Centre’s flagship scheme which has been renamed as PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the Narendra Modi-led NDA government aims to provide healthcare facilities to over 10 crore families covering urban and rural poor. All NDA chief ministers launched the scheme from their respective states.
The scheme will become operational from September 25 on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Niti Aayog member V K Paul said.
The ambitious scheme offers an insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh, which will cover 10 crore poor families or almost 50 crore persons. In his Independence Day speech, Modi had announced that while the scheme would initially cover 10 crore poor families as per the socio-economic census of 2011, it will in the coming days also benefit the lower middle-class, middle-class and upper-middle-class by way of jobs in the medical sector as new hospitals will open in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Ayushman Bharat is the Insurance Scheme which will provide insurance cover of Rs. 5 Lakh to 10 crore families. This the worlds largest Health Care scheme. Ayushman Bharat Scheme is a great initiative by the Indian government. Prime minister Narendra Modi has launched this National Health Protection Scheme for the poor needy people.
Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a health protection scheme which aims to provide health insurance policy to approximately 10 crores family. This will create awareness of health and wellness infrastructure across the nation to provide primary health care services.
Ayushman Bharat Yojana 2018-19
Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the launch of a new Ayushman Bharat (National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM). This Ayushman Bharat scheme have a benefit cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year and it is assumed that total 10 Lakh families will get benefit from this scheme.
By the launch of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, there will be a huge number of job opportunities for doctors, staff nurses, technicians etc. To make this scheme reach every beneficiary without any problems Ayushman Mitra will be recruited.
Ayushman Bharat scheme would be implemented in three phases. The government has decided to implement the first phase of the scheme on 2nd October 2018. The launch of Ayushman Bharat Yojana is 25th September 2018.
Ayushman Bharat Yojana Eligibility
The beneficiary should be included under the SECC (Socio-economic caste census) data which was conducted across rural and urban parts of the country in the year 2011. Socioeconomic caste census is a mechanism of counting and ranking under the various parameters, which are listed below:
- Literacy rates
- Median household income
- Poverty levels
- Nature of occupational profiles
- Predominant location
- Access to schooling
- Access to housing
- Sanitation, drinking water, and electricity
- Valid Aadhar card
Note: There is no family size limit. All the members in the family will get this insurance cover.

- Aadhar ID linked a valid bank account
- Respective special category certificates
- Age proof documents
- Family structure
- Identification details
- Contact details
- Scanned copy of Aadhar Card
- Income certificate
- Caste certificate
Note: Aadhar card is not compulsory to get benefits.
Ayushman Bharat Scheme Benefits
- An insurance cover of Rs. 5 Lakhs per family.
- There is no limitation on family size, age or gender.
- All members of eligible families as present in SECC database are automatically covered.
- Free treatment in case of hospitalization.
- People can go to the government or private hospitals across the country and get free treatment.
- You just need to carry Ayushman Bharat Family Health Card to receive treatment at the hospital.
- The hospital will not be allowed to charge any additional charges from the Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries for the treatment.
- A customer Care support system will be also available.
Ayushman Bharat Online Registration Process
Till now as per the government information, there is no need to get register for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The government has made the Ayushman Bharat Beneficiary list. Beneficiaries will be mailed Ayushman Bharat Family Health Card at their home addresses. And by this, they will get to know they are selected for the Ayushman Bharat Scheme Beneficiary List.
Government is preparing a software in which Ayushman Bharat Registrations will be done. So till now, it is not clear about how registrations will take place.
Then the beneficiary holder will have to go to the concerned hospital and he will be provided with individual Ayushman Bharat Health Cards. To the entire family, hospital will provide separate health cards.
